MONICA pilots

MONICA created tools for smart cities to use IoT technologies to support the management of security and (un)wanted sound at large, open-air cultural and sporting events which attract and affect many people.

One challenge of outdoor concerts is to ensure adequate levels for the audience while avoiding disturbance of the surroundings. With the initial concept of a sound field control (SFC) system, MONICA uses Bayesian inference to update a sound propagation model to tackle this issue using sound-zoning. The developed solution was tested at several large concerts and a noise reduction beyond the concert venue was achieved. To further strengthen the management of such events, MONICA provides a cloud-based IoT platform supporting a series of applications that can be used to monitor, record and analyse the environment and consequently predict or identify situations which need attention. During events personnel can monitor the situation using a web-based interface – the MONICA COP – which provides an operational picture of the environment in real-time, and which displays notifications in case of any unusual activities. The MONICA services include crowd and capacity monitoring, detection of security, health and safety incidents as well as location of and communication between staff, visitors and control centre. Software Development Toolbox

The MONICA Development Toolbox can be used to integrate various resources into the IoT Platform and hides the complexity of the communication with IoT devices. It contains sound and security applications for large, open-air events in city areas using IoT-enabled devices such as smart wristbands, video cameras, sound level meters and mobile phones. It is divided into three areas:

  • Software Developer Tools. These are packaged tools with user interfaces intended to be used by developers.
  • Generic Enablers. These are re-usable software components available in an Open Source GIT repository which can be used by entrepreneurs, start-ups and established companies alike.
  • Third Party Services and Tools. These are some openly available third-party tools that are recommended by the MONICA project to use when building Large Scale IoT applications. MONICA Tools and Generic Enablers have available interfaces for these third-party tools and services.

IoTBridge closes its first financial year

IoTBridge has now successfully closed its first year of operation. During 2019 the work focused on commercialising the results from CNets different smart city and infrastructure projects Monica, IoTBridge and InfraSweden 2030.

IoTBridge is focused on developing and marketing products and services for Bridge Health Monitoring using IoT and AI technologies. IoTBridge Sweden is a subsidiary of CNet. Read more at www.iotbridge.se.

The MONICA project demonstrated how cities can use IoT technologies to support the management of security and (un)wanted sound at large, open-air cultural and sporting events which attract and affect many people. Even though the project officially ended 31st of March 2020, the results live on and we invite you to browse our pages to see how you can benefit from the solutions and experiences of the project.

To accommodate the current required social distancing the final review was organised online.

Applications for crowd safety and security

MONICA services include crowd and capacity monitoring, detection of security, health and safety incidents as well as location of and communication between staff, visitors and control centre.

Applications for sound monitoring and control

Organisers of concerts want to give their performers and audiences the best music experience but they also wish to comply with local regulations on environmental sound exposure. MONICA deploys an acoustic system consisting of novel sound field control schemes which provide an optimised sound field in the audience area while minimising the exposure to noise in neighbouring areas.

Applications for citizen engagement and innovation

MONICA created several user-driven applications, rooted in advanced technologies grown by the needs of cities and its people.
MONICA created an open data repository that enables cities to make MONICA sensor data available to the public. The aim is to provide factual information as a basis for better decision-making and enable the use of the results for new smart city applications.

CheckHealth closes its first financial year

CheckHealth has now closed its first year of operation. During 2019 the work focused on commercialising results developed in the PICASO project. Two products and services where launched during 2019 – LinkWatch and RheumaCloud.

PICASO results on EULAR 2020

The Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf presents the results of the PICASO project proof of concept study on the EULAR 2020 E-Congress, 3rd to 6th of June 2020.

The publication “PICASO – The platform for improved personal and coordinated care of chronically ill – six months results from a proof-of-concept study” presents the performance of the PICASO solution in the clinical environment.

The abstract will be published in the electronic “Abstract Book” of the congress, which is an official supplement to the “Annals of Rheumatic Diseases ARD”.

EFPF now Teleworking

As the COVID-19 pandemic requires to avoid meeting and more or less all of EFPF partners are in lock-down situation, the EFPF project has completely switched to using digital technologies to stay in touch with partners and make progress in these difficult times.

CNet is currently managing the efforts in supply chain blockchain applications for the EFPF pilot use cases.

EFPF Meeting in Stockholm

The consortium of 30 partners, consisting of 3 large industrial partners, 6 Research organizations, 1 industrial association in the aerospace network, 6 SME end-users from different areas of manufacturing and 14 SMEs technology providers met from the 4th to 7th February 2020 at CNet in Stockholm. The technical meeting addressed the integration of practical requirements of the pilot use cases and the application of standards.

These 30 partners have spread across 10 different European States namely: UK, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, Romania, Portugal, Turkey, Greece, Germany and Austria, covering thus the diverse end-user and market needs in the field of digital manufacturing. This provides a well-balanced combination of complementary skills and expertise in the European Factory Platform project.

IoTBridge recruits sensor installer

IoTBridge has employed Stefan Trillkott, one of Swedens most experienced bridge sensor installers. Stefan has worked many years as Laboratory manager at KTH Byggvetenskap and collected vast experience on how to mount sensors on bridges to make them deliver correct measurements for a long period of time. Secure sensor mounting is fundamental to get a stable, correct and trusted data stream signal, to enable processing and analysing the data.

IoTBridge exhibits at Brobyggardagen

During the yearly conference for bridge construction and maintenance, Brobyggardagen, IoTBridge will exhibit its IoT-based Bridge Monitoring System. The solution consists of wireless sensors (accelerometers and strain gauges), IoT edge gateway, IoT cloud for scalable and continuous data stream processing and smartphone apps for visualisation.
