Grain Cloud aims to increase traceability in agriculture

The magazine Jordbruksaktuellt, Sweden’s largest independent industry magazine in agriculture, published an article about GrainCloud, a new project funded by the Swedish Board of Agriculture via the innovation support EIP-Agri. The consortium, including CNet, consists of seven partners with expert expertise together with the company Skandia Elevator in Arentorp who will develop a solution to meet higher demands from the market on transparency in the value chain of the future and the need to increase food safety on grain-based food through traceability.

The digital storage facility of the future will be able to automatically keep track of the amount of grain that has been taken in from fields, where it is stored, how it has been stored and for how long. It will also be able to track maintenance needs before malfunctions occur and assist farmers with service reminders, says Joakim Larsson, CEO and co-owner of Skandia Elevator. Grain Cloud is primarily designed for new facilities but will also be able to be integrated into older machine systems.

Grain Cloud awarded with Elmia Innovation award

Grain Cloud was in June nominated for the Elmia Lantbruk Innovation Award. The nominated product Grain Cloud, which has been developed by CNet together with our customer Skandia Elevator, is a smart farming app and cloud service that collects information from the grain management system. It shows, among other things, the transport systems and machines that are running, estimated drying times and keeps track of the inventory in several silos. The app sends alerts if there is a downtime in the drying process, machine failure and in need of service.

In September Grain Cloud was honored with the Elmia Silver award 2018 for its innovation. The Elmia Agricultural Innovation Award seeks to honor innovative agriculture and agricultural production technologies. The selected products receiving the award are considered to provide a contribution to the development of Swedish agriculture and inspiration for the continued development of the industry.

CNet delivers first IoT-based post-harvesting system

In cooperation with our customer Skandia Elevetor CNet has developed Grain Cloud, a smart agriculture app and cloud solution that quickly and easily gives an overview of all processes and devices in facilities for drying and storing grain. A main component in such facilities are grain elevators, which are used to transport grain into silos. An essential function is the protection of the grain from the elements and allowing that the grain is stored keeping it suitable for purchase through tracing quality and temperature.

Grain Cloud makes the harvesting more efficient. Calculating and keeping track of drying and transport times, while warning in case of a malfunction. It also facilitates planning and division of labour, enabling a more efficient harvest season and higher yields. Additionally, the app allows keeping track of the inventory, regardless of time and location. It also makes maintenance easier because it tracks the utilisation of all devices and provides reminders when it’s time for service.

CNet has successfully delivered and installed the first system running in several farms.
